Year 5 Visits to British Library - Jan/Feb 2010

The British Library has had some enquiring minds visiting over the period of three Tuesdays! Year 5 classes were given a glimpse of some of the wonders stored and on display and participated in a practical thinking and writing workshop entitled, “A Play on Words”.

Various word classes were collected from actual exhibits in the John Ritblat Gallery (adverbs from a book weighing over three stone; adjectives from Alice in Wonderland and Shakespeare scripts; nouns from the Beatles lyrics etc.). Boys then experimented with form and print to produce an inspiring class book collating a “cityscape” of sentences.

We all agreed that we wanted to go back and spend more time reading the electronic books, watching how a book is “borrowed” from the King’s Library and seeing the amazing three-dimensional painting, “Paradoxymoron” on the Lower Ground! AA
