Year 6 Play - 'Gunfight at the Deadwood Doomstone Saloon'

Following hot on the heels of the Year 4 production 'HONK!', and with performances on 22 & 23 March 2010, Year 6 presented their musical western 'Gunfight at the Deadwood Doomstone Saloon'. All the boys worked extremely hard, and in the end, the acting and singing came together extremely well and the boys can be very proud of what they achieved. Thanks as always go to the team of parents and staff who supported the production.

The pictures below give a flavour of the performances! You can also listen to an extract from one of the the performances, in the form of the 'encore'.

Year 4 Play - 'HONK!'

With performances on 3 & 5 March 2010, Year 4 presented their performance of the musical 'HONK!'. All the boys worked very hard, supported by their teachers. They worked together as a team, with lots of happy smiling faces. Audiences, which included their younger peers at the dress rehearsal, were enthralled by the enthusiasm, quality of the speaking and singing, the amusing dialogue and the colourful scenery and costumes; with a group of mums helping with the latter. The Headmaster congratulated all the boys for their hard work, and thanked everyone involved, especially parents, Mrs Blackford, Musical Director, and Mrs Arney as the overall Director.

The pictures below give a flavour of the performances! You can also listen to an extract from one of the the performances, in the form of the (eventually!) politely requested 'encore'. Click here to see the three poster winners.

Company Music Competition (February 2010)

Held just prior to the half-term holiday, Years 4 to 8 assembled in their Companies in the Sports Hall to compete for four trophies in this annual competition organised by the Music Department and Company Leaders.

Each Company performed four musical pieces; two solo instrumentalists, a vocal and a Company song. This year, the adjudicator was Mr Tim Johnson, Director of Music, Westminster School.

Mr Johnson praised the high calibre of the performances, and took time to explore with the boys his criteria for selecting the winners when faced with such a variety of instruments, pieces and ages.

The trophy winners of the four categories were:

  • Best individual solo instrumentalist: Alexander Tucker (Nelson) (‘Prelude from Suite No 1 in G’ by J S Bach on the Viola)
  • Best vocal: Harry Buisseret & Jonathan Olsen (Wellington) (singing a duet, “I’m forever blowing bubbles’ by Kenbrovin & Kellette
  • Best Company song: (Marlborough) “That’s not my name’ by Julian de Martino & Katie White
  • Overall Winning Company: Wellington

The pictures below give a flavour of the event, and show the range of costumes and props used to augment some of the performances! You can also listen to extracts from Big Band’s interlude, Mr Johnson’s remarks, and the winning pieces.
