A powerful, poignant occasion when the whole school community comes together to remember those who gave their lives for their country and for peace. The two boards in the chapel list those New Beacon boys who died in the First and Second World Wars – boys who sat in the same chapel pews that our boys sat in on Monday for our Remembrance services.
I am never more proud of the school on such occasions – we do these things well. We were joined for the first time this year by our Nursery children who, along with Reception to Year 8, stood in impressive, respectful silence as Canon David Kitley laid a wreath at the flagpole, we had a minute’s silence and The Last Post and Reveille were played by Edward and Sammy from an upstairs window. The message for the boys: they are the peace-makers!
