Year 5 and 6 enjoyed a very colourful production of Oscar Wilde’s “ The Canterville Ghost” at London’s Unicorn Theatre this month. A headless ghost with clanking chains in need of oiling; some fiery twins; a doom merchant of a housekeeper and wonderful sound and lighting effects made for a memorable dramatic experience!
The boys have been preparing for the show in their drama lessons, exploring the Victorian setting and events leading up to the arrival of the American Otis family to haunted Canterville Chase. The situation of the servant characters was explored through lively group improvisation. Boys shared their performances of earnest cooks, snooty butlers and exhausted gardeners amongst others!
My thanks to Mr Probert, Mr Burton, Mr Woodard, Mrs Brewer, Mrs Bateman-White, Miss Bibby and Miss Reid for their valued contributions to two great days out!
