On a Monday, 13th September, Year 8 headed over to the River Tillingbourne, which runs along the side of the North Downs and enters in to the River Wey over near Guildford. The boys undertook fieldwork for their Rivers project. They had to measure the width, depth, speed, gradient and bedload of the river at 3 different locations. They started at the upper site, a field at Crossways Farm, which is renowned for its exaggerated meanders and ox-bow lakes. We then moved on to the middle site at Abinger Hammer and then to Albury to finish off. The boys worked well and had fun wading about in the river taking a variety of measurements. The weather was kind to us with the sun breaking through at each site! A great day was had overall.
