Pre-Prep and Junior School

Thank you all for all your help with our suggested country walk with your boys to identify the leaves, trunks and nuts from The Oak (acorns) the Beech tree (beech nuts) the Horse Chestnut (conkers) and the sweet Chestnut (chestnuts).  My thanks too for all the photographs you took on your walks and of the trees and their produce.  They were lovely to receive.  If you were unable to take a walk last week, half term would be another opportunity and we would really value more of your pictures.  Perhaps add one more tree and identify the sycamore (with its helicopter seeds).

The Eco Warriors have suggested that as their snack boxes often contain fruit, if there were some containers strategically positioned, the boys would place their orange peels, banana skins etc. in these boxes and then take the contents down to the compost heap.  As part of this initiative, containers will be placed in the staff dining room and in the boys’ dining room to take all the fruit and vegetable scraps and these will be added to the kitchen’s scraps (potato peel, cauliflower leaves etc.) and taken to the compost heap recently constructed in the gardens by the Science block.  In the Spring its contents will be spread on the soil and some of the boys will start work on two of the gardens to create a ‘bee friendly’ space.  This initiative should considerably reduce the amount that goes to landfill, so well done ECO Warriors

My thanks to Holroyd Howe who are supplying the recycling bin in the main dining room and to our super Eco Warriors who are coming up with some great ideas and are pictured above.
