The National Highways have recently contacted the school with the following information:

In September, they completed the first stage of improvements and installed a temporary barrier on both sides of the carriageway. The barriers reduce the width of the bridge to one lane, so there are temporary traffic lights in place to keep traffic safe and moving.

The second phase of improvements have been slightly delayed and will now start on Sunday 28 November 2021 running until Monday 28 February 2022. During this phase, they will be upgrading the parapet – the barrier along the edge of the bridge – and installing new vehicle barriers. When they start the second phase, the temporary barriers will be removed.

To keep everyone safe, they will be closing Gracious Lane bridge to all traffic during the work. This may impact on the local community, but closing the bridge is the only way they can deliver the improvement works safely and efficiently. They have adapted the diversion to accommodate recommendations from the local community, and traffic will be diverted via Weald Road, A225, A224, A25 and B2024.  A map of the diversion route can be found below.

To allow for the installation of the new vehicle restraint barriers at both ends of Gracious Lane bridge, there will be 2-way temporary traffic lights on the east side of the bridge at the junction of Oak Lane and Gracious Lane. These will also be in place from 28 November 2021 until the work is complete.

They will be closing either the northbound or southbound carriageway of the A21 Sevenoaks bypass overnight (8pm to 5am) between A25 junction and Morley’s roundabout (A225) from 28 November 2021 for four nights. A diversion route will be in place via the A225, A224 and A25, shown below. The rest of the construction work will be undertaken during the day.

A summary of the closures and construction schedule can be seen in the table below.
