This past Tuesday the U13 hockey team took part in the IAPS South East Regional hockey tournament to try and qualify for the national tournament later this year. The tournament consisted of the top 16 prep schools from the Surrey, Kent and Sussex areas. The team comprised boys from Year 8 and Year 7 with a mix of experienced players and those new to the game.

They performed brilliantly in their group games, winning all four and conceding only 1 goal in the process. This allowed them to advance through to the cup competition, where the best 8 teams battled it out to earn a qualification spot for the national tournament. In a tense and hard fought quarter final game against Felton Fleet, The New Beacon came out on top with a 2:1 victory and secured their place at the national finals. After securing qualification it wasn’t to be for the next matches and we finished 4th overall. This was a fantastic result given the strength and quality of the other teams there.

All the boys played well but the standouts were Christo (5 goals), Joshua D in defence and Aidan O in his first games as a goalkeeper. Well done to all involved and thank you to the parents who came to support. We now look forward to the nationals in March!
