The annual Hudson Cup hosted by Yardley Court was a tournament where the squad could show off their short-game skills, where keeping the ball alive, not over-committing at rucks, keeping a good line of defence, supporting the ball-carrier on his shoulder and tackling, all feature prominently.

In our first match, we came up against a skilful Hawthorns team who have had a long season behind them and they were certainly well-drilled. We lost that encounter by four tries to one. Lessons learnt from this match-up, we played much better in the second match against Great Walstead and narrowly lost by four tries to three.

In the next three matches, we managed to overcome the opposition, playing some excellent running rugby, winning four tries to three against Sevenoaks School, three tries to one against Hazelwood and four tries to one against the host school, Yardley Court. The passing down the line and the hard running by all of the squad was a joy to behold. It was just so impressive. The boys tackled and rucked better and had the majority of the possession.

Unfortunately, we could not honour our final fixture as the boys had waited so long between our penultimate game against Sevenoaks School and the battle against Yardley Court that time had marched on and some of our parents had other commitments to attend to.

We thank Yardley Court for hosting the tournament and we look forward to attending again in 2023.

Sincere thanks to all of the parents who attended this tournament and, as always, gave the boys superb support from the touchline.

The following boys were in The New Beacon Hudson Cup Sevens squad:
Joshua D (captain), William S (vice-captain), Joshua H, Ignacio M, Luke H, Aiden O, Timi A, Edward H, Thomas H, Monty G, Fin M, Guy G.

Well done, boys!
