Mrs Brown came to tell the Year 1 boys how houses were cleaned in Victorian times. Using various artefacts, the boys experienced what life was like for a busy housekeeper before electricity had been invented. The boys did some washing and ironing in the laundry. They learnt how to light a fire using newspaper and bellows in the drawing room. The silver had to be polished and the carpets beaten. Pig’s head and dripping on bread was on the menu in the kitchen along with making rolled butter balls. Finally the boys had fun playing with the wooden toys that would have been found in a Victorian nursery. The boys learnt many new and interesting facts about England during the reign of Queen Victoria.
