A reminder that it is World Book Day this Thursday, 2 March 2023 and to go with that, Nursery, Pre-Prep and the Junior School are going to be taking part in various activities throughout the day with their class.
Following on from our brilliant visit from Joshua Seigal, our theme this year will be a focus on ‘Poetry.’ Therefore, we will be holding a poetry competition throughout the week running up to the finals which will take place on World Book Day. Please see the separate letter in this week’s Friday Report which contains more details.
We are asking boys to dress up as their favourite character from any book or poem on Thursday, 2 March. This is optional although we do encourage the children to take part. Please don’t feel the need to go to any expense. We welcome home made costumes and some may want to just bring a prop.
Another possibility would be to organise costume swaps amongst other parents, as a way to encourage the boys to recycle and reuse. Please feel free to coordinate amongst yourselves.
As always, the children will be given a £1 book token so they are able to purchase a book from the WBD 2023 selection of £1 books. With books for beginning, early, fluent and independent readers, there is something for everyone to enjoy. These books are on offer in shops already so the vouchers will be sent home this week for your child(ren) to enjoy spending.
In the UK, up to 500,000 children (1 in 15) don’t have a book of their own. This goes up to 1 in 10 for children receiving free school meals. Having access to books and developing a love of reading for pleasure is vital for a child’s future. With this in mind, we are asking those who feel they are in a position to do so, to make a donation to World Book Day – this will go to World Book Day who work directly with Book Aid International. To find out more about the great work they do, and to make a donation please follow this link:
We think the boys will enjoy the activities we have planned for Book Day and hope they become as excited about them as we are!
