On Wednesday 22 February, the U13A hockey team travelled to Dulwich Prep School to play their first competitive matches of the season. The boys played 4 matches in the group stages of the tournament, winning 3 and drawing the last game 0-0. This meant that they qualified top of their group and were through to the cup competition. In the semi-final they really started to play some fantastic hockey, moving the ball at pace. However, at this stage the games were short – at only 8 minutes – and they were unable to make a breakthrough, the end result being 0-0. This meant penalty shuffles: the boys managed to keep their cool and came out on top.

The final was against Sutton Valence school and was closely fought. The game was end-to-end with chances falling to both sides, finishing in a 0-0 draw. Again, the game went to a penalty shuffles to decide the winner. It was tense for those watching but the boys took it in their stride and ended the day victorious! Special mention goes to Josh in goal, who didn’t concede at all throughout the whole tournament. It was a superb way to start the season: well done to all the boys involved and thank you to the parents who came along to support the team.
