Yet another week has flown by, with the successful departure and return of the Year 8 Battlefields Trip, of which more can be read in The Friday Report.
Mrs Brownsdon’s two assemblies this week have focused on October as Black History Month in the UK, highlighting some historical figures who might be less well-known but no less significant, such as Mary Seacole and Harry Edward, as well as the need for tolerance and justice for all.
With Year 8 overseas, the Year 7 footballers stepped up on Wednesday, 4 October to fulfil three fixtures against what are suspected to be three Under 13 teams at Sevenoaks School. Here are a few notices that you should be aware of for the next few days and weeks: –
Imago School Photographs
Please follow this link to view and purchase your child’s school photograph. Don’t forget to place your order by 2 November and take advantage of free delivery to school.
There are still places available in DocSquad club, which takes place after school on Mondays. If you would like to watch award-winning documentaries whilst enjoying a free KitKat, please see Mr Yeats-Brown Jr for more information.
Science Support Squad
Mr Burton would like to remind all Year 7 and 8 boys that this takes place every Friday at first break in the Science Lab. Please come along if you would like some support in your Science learning.
Head’s Art Competition
Calling all budding artists, the inaugural Head’s Art Competition is running until the end of half term giving plenty of time to pick up the pencils/paintbrushes/oils or crayons! The entry should be A4 size but can be portrait or landscape and the theme for this term is ‘New Beginnings’. The winning entries will be exhibited in Mrs Brownsdon’s Study.
Your son will soon be issued with a set of yellow reflective armbands. These are to be worn on his blazer/overcoat.
£2.50 will be billed to your account. Should you, however, not want these armbands because your son still has his from last year, please email your son’s form teacher.
Once your son has received his armbands, he must print his name and form on them.
Year 7 Informal Music Concert
The first Year 7 Informal Concert of the term took place on Thursday, 5 October with the following boys performing:
- Tristan H-C (singing)
- Max H (singing and piano)
- Conor M (piano and drums)
- Noah S (drums)
- Sam B (drums)
- Aadi D (singing, piano and violin)
- Dev D (piano)
- Charles W (piano and violin)
- Thomas L (violin)
Reminder – Outdoor Shoes
Boys in the Senior School must bring in a pair of old trainers or ‘wellies’ so that their school shoes do not get damaged during breaks when the grass is wet. These outdoor shoes will be stored in the lockers alongside the lower playing fields.
The forecast for the early part of the coming week predicts unseasonably warm weather for October so a reminder that boys must have a named water bottle in school every day. This is especially important for Games afternoons when they could quickly become dehydrated.
Late arrivals to school
If your son arrives late to school, a reminder that he must be dropped off at the main school reception and then he must sign in with Mrs Hoffmann at Matron’s Dispensary. It is vital that your son signs in, in case of the unlikely event of an emergency (such as evacuation due to fire) when we need to know exactly who is school – or not. Similarly, if you have been given permission to collect your son early, he must sign out using the ‘Signing Out Book’ outside the main school office upon collection.
Mathematics YouTube Channel
Year 7 and 8 boys have all been emailed a link to a YouTube Channel that may be of some use whilst they are revising for a test or an examination. The videos are especially relevant for those boys who struggle with fractions, percentage (includes percentage profit and loss), decimal fractions and Algebra. Other topics include nth term patterns, straight line graphs, ratio, simultaneous equations, ratio, probability, speed – distance – time, angles, polygons, surface area and volume of a cube and cuboid, transformations – rotation, reflection and translation, enlargement by scale, area and circumference of a circle. I would suggest that Year 7 and 8 Sets 1 and 2 boys revise their Algebra by following the link to Algebra Recap .
Advance warning that examinations commence on Tuesday, 7 November for Years 7 and 8. Revision material will be available from Friday, 13 October.
I hope you have a lovely weekend, and I wish you luck if your team is playing for a spot in the Rugby World Cup Quarter Finals!
