Visit from the Problem-Solving Company

Winning Team:

We were very lucky to have two days of a visiting problem-solving company so that all boys from Reception to Year 8 were able to take part in team building and critical thinking activities.  The majority of the boys completed an escape room activity where they had to problem solve their way through a series of padlocks to reach the innermost box in the fastest time.  It was lovely to see the boys working together and thinking logically as well as outside the box!…..  and then to see them race to unlock the timer a super way to explore mathematical ideas further.

Marcus – Skiing Update

Marcus in 6C has been very busy once again on the slopes! From previous communications you will be aware that Marcus is a very gifted skier and competes at a national, and often international, level for his age group. Recently he’s been in action again at The London & Southeast regional ski race series which comprises five races between April and October at local dry slopes including Chatham, Brentwood and Bowles. Points are awarded both for individual timed runs and head-to-head races against other skiers with similar race times that day. Marcus often ends up racing his head-to-heads against U18 skiers as his individual times are rather quick! Marcus moved up from the U10 to U12 age group this season (therefore his main competition has been from Year 7 boys) but consistent racing throughout the season, finishing with a race win on Saturday, was enough to clinch the title – 10 points clear of his closest rival!  In addition, as part of the U12 Bromley A-team, he raced the anchor leg throughout the season securing consistent podium spots for the team.
Marcus is also a member of the Kent FANS scheme: ‘Free Access for National Sports people’. He must apply annually, citing his results and supported by a letter from his coach to confirm that he continues to perform at a national level. As a member of the scheme and in full time education, he is eligible to apply for a small grant to cover the costs of training, travel, accommodation and competition entry fees. This year is the second time Marcus has been funded by this scheme which is another note-worthy accolade!
Very well done, Marcus – and we wish you continued success for the upcoming winter snow season.

The Last Couple of Weeks in Year 2
We have been having a blast in Year 2! In R.S., we looked at the story of Ganesh and then made our own models of him using clay. Aren’t they wonderful? In Science this term, we have studied Healthy Living and finished the topic with Five Steps of Handwashing and then using this method before making our own sandwiches. Boys had the choice of cheese and ham (most chose both!) and were very responsible whilst using the knife for spreading butter and cutting their sandwich once finished. In English this week, we went on a beautiful Autumn walk to inspire us to write some poetry. The boys were well-behaved and a joy to be out of the classroom with. They are currently writing their poems and we look forward to sharing some with you upon our return after half term. We wish you all a relaxing break.
