The autumn term has been a rather busy one with so many different events taking place, inclusive of football, rugby, shooting matches and music concerts.

Boys have received their examination results and as always, some will be pleased with their results and others may be disappointed. As we always tell our boys, ‘you do not rest on our laurels if you have been successful; instead, you maintain the momentum and also attempt to raise the bar that little bit higher. If you have suffered disappointment, pick yourselves up, and go again.’

I urge the boys in the Senior School to seek the necessary assistance from their subject teachers whenever the need may arise.

The Carol Service at the Tonbridge Chapel on Thursday evening was an amazing showcase for the music department and the boys in Years 5 – 8. This annual service is a celebration of carols and the real meaning of Christmas for many. It was no different this year!

The festive season at The New Beacon kicked off today with Christmas Fayre run by the boys with assistance from the NBPA who yet again set up the well-received Santa’s Grotto on the stage in the theatre. Santa was kept busy and it was heartening to see that some of the more senior boys also had the opportunity to tell Santa what surprises they wanted under their tree.

On behalf of all of your son’s Senior School teachers, we wish you a peaceful, joyous and safe festive season.

A reminder that we’re all back on the 9 January 2024.

Enjoy your weekend.

Here are a few notices for the weeks ahead:

Under 13 Hockey

Upon our return to school in January, the U13 Hockey Squad will be involved in a number of training sessions will commence on the 8 January 2024.

We have taken up the opportunity to compete in the IAPS Hockey Tournament which takes place on Friday, 26 January 2024. This is very early on in the term and we are yet to train for hockey. Therefore, we are having a few extra sessions where we will be able to choose our team of 10 Boys for the Tournament. We want to give your son/s the opportunity to train for the event, so have added additional sessions on the following dates: –

Tuesday 9, 16 and 23 January 2024: IAPS Training Session 7.30 – 8.30am on The New Beacon Astro (This is currently an open invitation for all boys in year 7 and 8, who would like to try out for the team.)

Once these sessions have been completed, we will be able to confirm who has been selected for the final squad.

Christmas Jumper Days for Years 7 and 8

We have already had our first Christmas Jumper Day today. On Monday, 11 December, the boys in Year 8 may wear home clothes and a Christmas jumper – not compulsory to wear a Christmas jumper. They need not wear their school uniform. This is the day of the Year 8 Bluewater Christmas shopping trip.

Year 7 should wear their school uniform and a Christmas jumper on Monday, 11 December – not compulsory to wear a Christmas jumper.

13 December is Christmas Jumper day number 3! Again, a jumper, but also school uniform to be worn.

All makes perfect sense, doesn’t it?

Form Feasts
In keeping with our usual tradition, there will be ‘Form Feasts’ on the last morning of term.  Please click here for more details.

Year 8 Bluewater Christmas Shopping – Monday, 11 December 2023

The Year 8 cohort will be going to Bluewater by coach on Monday for their Christmas shopping experience, departing at 2.30 p.m. and returning to The New Beacon at 6.45 p.m. You can collect your sons from outside The NBC.

Year 8 Holiday Work
Year 8 are not being set extra holiday work over the Christmas break.  We have found from experience that at the end of this long term the boys are tired and ready for a break.  They will be working over February half term and the Easter break and therefore this is a good opportunity for a rest.  If boys wish to do any work, we suggest they review their exams, consolidate any work or papers completed/covered this term and use/complete any booklets they already have.

Wraparound Care Arrangements for the last week of term

Please note Breakfast and After School club will continue next week, but After School club will not run on the last day of term.
