Another busy week draws to a close and the thought of two days of relaxation is absolute bliss.
However, the relaxation for some boys and staff will need to be put on hold because on Saturday our U12 and U13 boys will be showcasing their rugby skills at the annual Hudson Cup, a Sevens tournament hosted by Yardley Court. The relevant coaches will have informed the boys who are participating that they should dress warmly and have a hot drink and a few snacks to sustain them during the afternoon. Good luck, boys!
Congratulations to Edward B who managed to gain an aggregate score of 375 out of 400 on the shooting range. This a remarkable achievement and he can be proud of his continued progress.
This week Rory S played in the Kent Schools Table Tennis Individual Tournament where he was unlucky to lose in the final. He had played some exciting matches throughout the tournament.
It would be good to be able to highlight other Senior School boys and recognise their achievements outside the normal school activities. Email me details of your son’s achievement I will try to highlight them in my weekly correspondence. This can include sport, music and any other cultural activity.
With the half-term break on the horizon, Mr Vincent has collated all the revision information and where applicable, practice papers that will be forwarded today. This is for the year 8 cohort who will be sitting their examinations in the second week after our return from the break.
The examination dates for year 8 boys are from Monday, 26 February to Thursday, 29 February.
Year 7 parents are reminded that the Parents’ Evenings next week will take place in The Studio in TNBC. For more information, see below.
I hope that you will all have a pleasant weekend and that those boys who have not been feeling too well of late, will recover from their ailments sooner than later.
With best wishes,
There has been a suspected case of chicken pox in the Nursery. Please see the following NHS link for your information:
Suspected and confirmed cases of chicken pox need to stay away from school and vulnerable individuals until all the spots have formed a scab, which is usually 5 days after the spots appeared.
Year 7 Parents’ Evenings

Venue: The Studio in The New Beacon Centre
Time: 4.45 p.m. – 7.00 p.m.
There is no need to make a booking, but it would be appreciated if all interviews can be kept to 5 minutes. Should you require more time you may make an appointment to meet on another occasion.
Should you not be able to make the allocated evenings, please do inform your son’s form teacher that you will be attending on a different evening.
There will be coffee, tea and water available for all in attendance.
School Ski Competitions – Years 4-8
At The New Beacon we are looking at entering teams in the ESKIA, IAPS & Precise Kents Schools Association Competitions. These competitions are spread out throughout the year and will give the boys who ski regularly and to a high ability a chance to represent the school in skiing on both an individual and team perspective. If you are interested in entering these competitions, please contact Mr Herbert on email@example.com
Safer Internet Day
Safer Internet Day is celebrated globally in February each year to promote the safe and positive use of digital technology for children and young people, and to inspire a national conversation about using technology responsibly, respectfully, critically, and creatively. Safer Internet Day 2024 is on 6th February and will be celebrated with the theme ‘Inspiring change? Making a difference, managing influence and navigating change online.’ Do look at the many resources available on the link below.
Look out for a communication from Mrs Alteirac on Monday regarding the Dangers of Gaming, as well as a daily guide from the ‘What Parents Need To Know’ series which provides a brilliant summary of Games and Apps, their PEGI rating, elements that could be considered inappropriate but also some insights that might help you engage with your children about games they enjoy, without you having to actually play! A different one will be sent every day next week.
