Our week began with a quote from Marcus Rashford… “Finding your voice and purpose in life is one thing, but, very often, when it is time to use that voice and make a change, you will need a bit of teamwork to make things happen”. Teamwork is key. Working together to achieve a goal which is far greater than ourselves is a life skill. The boys have worked together in many ways this week. But they have also learnt that they can also ask their friends for help. Supporting each other in our day to day lives is so important. We have covered so many aspects of life this week; Mental Health, Safer Internet use and Lunar New Year. Life is about celebrating our differences and unity as one.

I wish you all a prosperous year ahead as we move into the Year of the Dragon, and a happy and healthy half term break.

Trip to Polka Theatre
We have arranged a theatre trip for the boys in Reception and Year 1 to see ‘Tidy’ on Wednesday, 28 February at the Polka Theatre, Wimbledon. The boys need to wear their school uniform. We will be leaving school promptly at 8.30am so boys must be in school by 8.15am please. A morning snack will be provided by the school. Parents will need to supply a nut free packed lunch and a water bottle in a small named bag which your son can carry. No pocket money will be needed. We will return to school before the end of the school day. In case of a significant delay, we will contact you via Clarion Call. Please complete the online permission form to authorise your son’s attendance and remember to include your contact telephone number for the day. We are very much looking forward to our visit to the Polka Theatre.

We are delighted to be able to offer a Nursery Breakfast Club with effect from Monday, 19 February 2024. The Nursery Breakfast will run from 7:30 – 8:20 each morning, Monday to Friday in the Nursery building with Mrs Beresford and Mrs Griffiths. During this time your child will be offered a light breakfast of cereals and/or toast. The coat will be £5 per day. Dietary requirements and allergies will be taken into account. If you would like to take advantage of this service, please book at least 24 hours in advance through the school website.

Another gentle reminder to prompt “please and thank you’ as it is really important that we use good manners.

Have a really lovely half term break and we look forward to seeing you all when we return.

RWI review February 2024

As you are aware, we have undertaken a widespread review of our Pre-Prep literacy scheme Read Write Inc.. All staff and parents were given the opportunity to complete a survey relating to their experience of the scheme and we are pleased with the feedback we have received. All reading schemes take time to become embedded in the culture of a school and it is clear from the assessment data that the majority of the boys are doing well and making excellent progress.

We are aware that one size doesn’t fit all, and so it has been good to review the scheme and reflect on how we can adapt it to meet the needs of all pupils. We have decided to adjust the way we provide the Teams assignments from after half term. These video links will now be sent as an optional link in The Friday Report, rather than as an assignment. They may be of use if you wish to revisit a specific sound, help build fluency and speed when reading, or learn to spell red words etc, of learning at home. Please look in The Friday Report for this after half term.

We would also like to remind you that we have an extensive and varied selection of reading material that the boys are welcome to bring home and share with you, please just ask the class teacher.

I would like to thank you again for your support with this review. It is wonderful to see that with our emphasis on phonics acquisition and reading, our pupils are becoming free readers earlier than ever before.
