One of the many benefits of an independent school education is the vast number of opportunities open to the children. Alongside a rigorous academic programme, the boys at The New Beacon can participate in a wide range of musical, sporting, Art, and drama endeavours. Our mission statement says, ‘We ask each boy to strive for personal excellence, aiming to be the best he can be, making the most of every opportunity and possibility.’

The boys at The New Beacon certainly take this to heart. Last weekend, some of the Year 3 and 4 boys took part in the Schools’ Triathlon. Not only did they step out of their comfort zones with their training in the lead up to the event, but they also competed with camaraderie, respect, maturity and kindness. They proudly showed off their medals in assembly on Wednesday and spoke about their sporting successes as well as how they had worked together as a team and cheered each other on.

This week, saw the triumph of the Year 4 Play, Finding Nemo. The boys sang brilliantly and said their lines with clarity, enthusiasm and confidence! The production was a collaborative effort and my thanks to all the staff who contributed to this performance, especially Dr. Maslin for her inspirational music teaching, our industrious Year 4 TAS and our three magnificent Directors, Miss Stone, Mrs Manning and Mrs Williamson.

Pre-Prep and Junior School boys are working hard rehearsing for the Summer Concert, which will take place during our Celebration Day on 5th July. This promises to be a wonderful musical extravaganza!

A reminder that no parents should be in any school building unaccompanied. If you need to see a teacher, please book an appointment and if you need to drop something off for your son, please leave it with Mrs. Harding in her office. Another reminder that when you collect your son(s) at the end of the day, please leave promptly to ease traffic congestion, and please avoid using the Adventure Playground.

Wishing you a wonderful weekend ahead, whatever it has in store.

Mrs Alteirac
Head of Pre-Prep & Junior School

Boys playing home fixtures are requested to bring their water bottles to home fixtures. There will be water filling stations for the boys to replenish their water bottles. We are trying to do away with supplying plastic bottles of water.

It has been noted and reported that a few parents are not adhering to the speed limit on the drive around the school at drop-off and pick-up times. All drivers are reminded that they must observe the speed limit, be vigilant as you drive on the campus and certainly not be using mobiles until you are stationary.

Even though we regularly remind boys about their own safety on the campus, there is bound to be an occasion that one or more boys may not observe the necessary safety checks before crossing at the pedestrian crossings.
