I hope everyone had a restful and rejuvenating half-term break. We’ve hit the ground running this week.

Monday saw ten Year 3 and ten Year 4 boys go to Tonbridge School to compete against Hilden Grange in an Athletics fixture. On Tuesday, Mr Young took 8 Junior School boys to the Kent Primary Tennis Doubles Competition.

Next week, is National Healthy Eating Week. Here at The New Beacon, we re-brand it as Healthy Living Week as we feel it’s important to look at social, emotional and mental health as well as physical health. Please read the letter below for more information about the week. We look forward to seeing the healthy, coloured snacks and items of clothing throughout the week. Get ready for green on Monday!

There are many trips and events taking place over the next four and a half weeks. Please do read, digest and respond to links in The Friday Report each week so we can ensure that the trips and events run seamlessly. Next week, Year 2 visit Knole Park on Wednesday and Year 1 venture to the seaside at Hastings on Thursday. We also welcome the Royal Institute of Science on Thursday, who will be putting on a Science Show for boys in Years 3-6. Finally, LAMDA and ABRSM exams will also be taking place next Monday and Tuesday.

We look forward to enjoying The New Beacon Summer Fete tomorrow morning. Do remember that it starts at 12.00 p.m. and the NBPA have worked hard to make this a most enjoyable occasion for the whole family. It certainly is one of the highlights of the year for many of the boys.

Wishing you a wonderful weekend ahead.

With best wishes,

Mrs Alteirac

10 – 14 June
Next week is Healthy Living Week! The focus is on ‘Give it a go!’ There will be a specific focus for each day of the week and we are asking the boys to come dressed in one item of clothing in the correct colour along with their uniform.

Monday (Green): Get at least 5 a day – Fresh, frozen, dried and canned all count!

Tuesday (Red): Stay hydrated – Have about 6-8 drinks a day. Tap water is a great choice.

Wednesday (Orange): Move more – Find ways to be more active every day.

Thursday (Yellow): Focus on fibre – Have more wholegrain foods, fruit, vegetables, beans and lentils.

Friday (Multicolours): Reduce food waste – Aim for the right amount when you shop, cook and eat.

We shall be travelling by minibus, departing at 9.30 a.m. and returning to school at 1.30pm, after we have had a picnic lunch in the park grounds.  Please supply your son with a nut-free lunch and a water bottle. School will provide a snack for our arrival. Boys are to wear school uniform and will need a small, named rucksack to carry their packed lunch, a school baseball / sun hat and a light raincoat, in case of inclement weather.  Please also apply sun cream to your boys before they leave home in the morning.

We hope this will be an exciting trip!

Please complete the permission form on the new Reach More Parents app by Monday, 10 June.

As part of our topic on ‘Seasides in the Past and Present’ we shall be taking Year One to Hastings on Thursday, 13 June.  We will be having a tour of the Blue Reef Aquarium and The Fishermen’s Museum.  For lunch we will be having fish and chips at The Mermaid and The Fish Hut Restaurants.  The coach will be leaving soon after 8.30 am and we will arrive back for 3.30 pm.  You will be notified by Clarion Call of any delay.

For this trip your son will need:

  • to wear his white PE t-shirt and school tracksuit top.  He can then wear his own bottom-half clothes; i.e. shorts, and comfortable shoes, i.e. trainers, etc.
  • a named, lightweight waterproof coat in case of poor weather.
  • if the weather is hot, he will also require sunscreen applied prior to coming to school and a school sun cap.
  • a small named rucksack and a bottle of water.

On Wednesday, 19 June, Year 4 will be visiting RHS Wisley.  This is an exciting opportunity for the boys to learn about different habitats as well as the effects that light, air, water and temperature all have on plant growth.  The boys will be visiting the Glasshouse to experience different climatic conditions and taking part in a workshop on plant adaptation.

The coach will depart from school at 9:00am and will return before the end of the school day in time for after school activities.  However, in case of significant delay, you will be advised by Clarion Call.

The boys will wear school uniform for the trip and will need to bring the following:

  • A clearly named rucksack
  • A named waterproof jacket
  • A nut-free sandwich and water bottle – the kitchen will provide additional snacks
  • A named cap and sun cream (if reapplication is required)
  • Boys may also bring a small, non-electronic game for the coach journey

Please let us know on the form if your son is prone to travel sickness or is sensitive to pollen.

Boys do not need to bring any money.
