Welcome back to the second half of the summer term. With the weather looking like being kind to us, here’s hoping that we can all enjoy what is left of this academic year, in the classroom, on the sports field and also at the numerous events that lie ahead.

The examinations are now done and dusted, but there is still some time to go before the start of the summer term holiday. With that in mind, the Year 8 Leavers’ Programme kicks in next week and Year 7 will be reviewing their exam scripts and will also continue with a full academic programme.

We look forward to enjoying The New Beacon Summer Fete tomorrow morning. Do remember that it starts at 12.00 p.m. and the NBPA have worked hard to make this a most enjoyable occasion for the whole family. It certainly is one of the highlights of the year for many of the boys. The Year 8 boys have a special event organised, viz. the ‘DUNK IT Tournament’ which commences at 1.30 pm on The Astro. This Company competition will be refereed by Mr Herbert.

12pm – 3pm
We are looking forward to seeing you and your families and friends this Saturday for our Summer Fete.

We have got everything you need from live entertainment by our very own Mrs Wagstaff and her band The Sarah Jayne

Project, food trucks, the famous Year 7 Long Bar, Junior Raffle to a wide range of activities. Including a Tractor Ride, Inflatable Assault Course, Football Speed Cage, Welly Wanging, Teddy tombola and so much more!

We thought it would be helpful to share the programme and pitch plan ahead of the event.

We can’t wait to see you there!

10 – 14 June
Next week is Healthy Living Week! The focus is on ‘Give it a go!’ There will be a specific focus for each day of the week and we are asking the boys to come dressed in one item of clothing in the correct colour along with their uniform.

Monday (Green): Get at least 5 a day – Fresh, frozen, dried and canned all count!

Tuesday (Red): Stay hydrated – Have about 6-8 drinks a day. Tap water is a great choice.

Wednesday (Orange): Move more – Find ways to be more active every day.

Thursday (Yellow): Focus on fibre – Have more wholegrain foods, fruit, vegetables, beans and lentils.

Friday (Multicolours): Reduce food waste – Aim for the right amount when you shop, cook and eat.

Please click HERE for more information about ‘Healthy Living Week’ next week.

Monday 10 June
On Monday morning the Year 6, 7 and 8 boys will be sitting for their Leavers’ Individual and Group photographs. This will start at 9.00am Boys should be wearing their blazers. Jumpers can be dispensed with for the photograph. We ask that all boys brush their hair and polish their shoes in preparation for the photograph. Need to look smart, chaps!

Monday 10 June
Mrs Bridgeman has kindly offered her services so that we can enjoy an afternoon of competitive water polo. She will officiate all of the matches. Playing water polo has for the past few years become a rite of passage for the year 8 boys during their final weeks at The New Beacon. Boys are reminded to bring their swimming shorts and a towel to school on this day.

Tuesday 11 June
On Tuesday the year 8 boys are off to the seaside. The pristine sands of Ramsgate and the War Tunnels beckon. Please ensure that your son has a small backpack for his packed lunch, a water bottle, sunscreen and some spending money. There is a café on the beach for him to purchase refreshments. Boarders will be supplied with a packed lunch. The kitchen will supply snacks for all the boys. There are lifeguards on the beach and we will therefore allow the boys to cool themselves off in the sea. Please do email me should you prefer your son not to swim. Don’t forget to pack a towel.

Friday, 14 June
Another forthcoming NBPA event is the Year 7 and 8 Grease-themed Disco on Friday, 14 June. We will be hosting Walthamstow Hall and Solefield. This extravaganza is where our boys can showcase their rock-n-roll moves. Perhaps they may want to watch this Grease dance tutorial for some inspiration.

For more information please click HERE.

On Friday 28 June Year 7 will be visiting Reculver Country Park and its adjacent coastline. A practical study of longshore drift on the beach will be undertaken. A variety of land uses will be examined, including coastal defences.

Timings: The coach will depart at 8.45am and arrive back around 4.00pm. If the coach is late a clarion call message will be sent.

  • Wear PE kit and school tracksuits.
  • Trainers (or similar supportive footwear) should be worn
  • Pack a waterproof in the event of inclement weather.
  • Ensure sunscreen is applied prior to coming to school and a school sun cap is worn.
  • A rucksack/ bag will help carry the things they require along the walk.

Equipment: I will provide all the necessary maps, paper and stationary.

Camera: Digital cameras (not the highly expensive sort) are welcome

Break, packed lunch and a small rucksack: They must bring their usual break time snack, together with a packed lunch, with drinks (please remember NO NUT-BASED PRODUCTS).

Timings & Kit List for Normany Trip 2024

Tuesday, 9 July 2024

As you will have seen from the calendar, there is a Year 7 outing to Chessington World of Adventures on Tuesday, 9 July.  Please see below for more details.

Arrangements for the day

  • Boys should meet in Science Lab 1 at 8.20am where they will be registered and given further instructions and reminders about the day.
  • We shall be travelling to Chessington by coach.
  • We hope to return to school at approximately 4.30pm depending on the traffic conditions. We shall use the clarion call system to advise you of any changes to the timing.
  • School uniform is not necessary. Boys should come to school in their casual clothes. Boys may wish to bring a spare set for the return journey if they get wet as a result of going on a water ride. This can be left on the coach which is staying at Chessington for the day.
  • If the forecast is fine, boys are strongly advised to bring a hat and to have sun cream applied.
  • IMPORTANT: There are a number of cafes/restaurants at Chessington but they are all cashless now. Please make sure that your son has a cashless means to pay for his lunch/snack/cuddly toy! Alternatively, your son is welcome to bring a packed lunch with him but he will need a rucksack to carry this around with him.  The Souvenir shops still accept cash.
  • Although there are lockers at Chessington, past experience has shown they are quite difficult and awkward to use. It is therefore preferable if the boys have a minimum of stuff to carry.  A ‘bum bag’ or money belt for keeping a bank card safe is ideal.
  • No mobile phones or other electronic gadgets to be brought.
  • The boys will be organised into groups of 4 minimum and they must stay in their groups at all times. There will be a designated meeting point at which there will always be a member of staff on duty. The boys will be required to check in at lunchtime (between 1 and 1.30pm.)

The cost of the outing will be £47.00, to include cost of entry and travel by coach, and this will be added to your end of term account.

If you consent to your son taking part in the trip, I would be grateful if you would complete the form below as soon as possible.

Please complete the Permission Form on the new Reach More Parents app by Monday, 17 June.
