The boys in the Senior School are buzzing with excitement about the prospect of being in France for a week. No school for an entire week! Unheard of! Year 7 are enjoying the sights and sounds of Paris and the Year 8 group will be in the Normandy region. It’s an early departure for the Year 8 boys as we will be departing from The New Beacon on Sunday to the strains of the early dawn chorus.

For the Year 8 boys this will be their final trip at The New Beacon and here’s hoping that the weather is favourably warm so that we can also spend some quality time on the Normandy beaches and to work at getting a pre summer tan.

Apparently, Mr Vincent has booked us in to visit a goat farm where the brave amongst us can also sample some French cuisine, viz. frog’s legs and escargot. I think I’ll stick to a medium to rare rib-eye steak and les frites.

We wish both year groups bon voyage and enjoyment, peace and harmony in abundance.

On Tuesday the Year 8 cohort had an amazing day out to Ramsgate. Brian, our tour guide in the Ramsgate Tunnels, regaled us with stories of how thousands of people actually lived in these tunnels during WWII and specifically during the blitz. Brian was four years old when war broke out in 1939 and he spent many nights in the tunnels as Ramsgate was being bombed. It is really worth visiting.

Year 8 parents, I will be emailing the boys on a regular basis informing them of any changes to the leavers’ programme that may need to be enforced due to unforeseen circumstances.

The rehearsal for the production is in full swing and the boys have started to ‘live themselves into their role.’ I will further remind them of the attire for each day, i.e. whether they should arrive at school in school uniform or home clothes.

Congratulations to Xander D, Ify O and Sam B who participated in a debating competition at Sevenoaks School on Thursday afternoon and were convincing winners.

I wish all Year 7 and 8 parents an absolutely wonderful time next week. I know that some parents have taken the opportunity to go on a short vacation themselves. Enjoy!

Head of Senior School

With under two weeks till sports day, we are preparing all parents and pupils for this great celebration of athletics at The New Beacon.

Please bring a picnic lunch for you and your son. Please can you contact if you will need a packed lunch for the day made by school. Boys whose parents aren’t staying will need to be supervised by staff but do let us know if your son will be joining another family for the picnic.
  2. Please ensure your son comes into school in his PE kit wearing a company coloured top (non-football tops where possible), trainers/spikes, water bottle, hat, suntan cream.
  3. Toilets – If you would require the toilets during your visit, please use the toilets provided in the NBC (Sports Centre).
  4. Spectating: You are welcome to go onto the field to watch your son perform his field activities but please make sure you stand on the perimeter to avoid impeding the events.  In the track events, please kindly stand in the spectator’s area to support your son.
  5.
