With the final 2.5 weeks of the Summer Term upon us, we have an exciting and busy schedule, which is packed with fun activities and opportunities to celebrate the achievements of our boys.  Getting enough sleep is crucial, so please ensure they are going to bed promptly. Summer has finally arrived, the warm sunshine and bright blue skies are just blissful.  On that note, a reminder that boys need to have a refillable water bottle in school and do please apply suncream to your son before leaving home.  If you would like it reapplied throughout the day, please include a named bottle of suncream in your son’s bag and kindly let his teacher know.

On Monday, Reception had a wonderful time at the Sevenoaks Wildlife Trust. The weather was perfect and this enabled the boys to have a great day out. They loved pond dipping, taking turns admirably and enjoyed searching for all the minibeasts in different habitats. They found so many different creatures! Reception listened and behaved beautifully, learning so many facts. Thank you to all the parents who went along to help.

In glorious sunshine, Year 4 spent a fascinating day at RHS Wisley on Wednesday, learning about plant adaptation. Highlights included taking cuttings from tradescantia plants to take home, exploring the vast Glasshouse and enjoying delicious ice creams.

Today, the Year 2 boys had a glorious afternoon in the sunshine, picking strawberries at Stonepitts Farm and the Reception boys welcomed their Grandparents and special guests for our annual Grandparents’ Afternoon. It was so heart-warming watching the Reception boys proudly showing their grandparents around the school.

The ABRSM exam results have come in and there are some incredible achievements. My congratulations to all the boys who took part and a special thank you to Dr. Maslin for organising the exams so that they ran seamlessly!

On Monday, Year 3 head to Tonbridge Castle for the day. Thursday morning is Sports’ Day for all boys in Y1-4, followed by a whole school picnic at 12:30pm. Please see further details about this below and we hope to see you there!

Wishing you a wonderful weekend ahead. Enjoy the sunshine!

With best wishes,

Mrs Alteirac

Thursday 27 June
With under two weeks till sports day, we are preparing all parents and pupils for this great celebration of athletics at The New Beacon.

We are expecting it to be a great day of sport throughout the school (Y1-Y8) and hope you will be able to join us. Please see more detailed information HERE and some of the generic information below:

  1. We’re hoping the whole school will come together for a picnic on the day. Post-Sports Day for Pre-Prep and Junior school and Pre-Sports Day for Middle and Senior School at 12:30pm. Please bring a picnic lunch for you and your son. Please can you contact Nicola.Lee@newbeacon.org.uk if you will need a packed lunch for the day made by school. Boys whose parents aren’t staying will need to be supervised by staff but do let us know if your son will be joining another family for the picnic.
  2. Please ensure your son comes into school in his PE kit wearing a company coloured top (non-football tops where possible), trainers/spikes, water bottle, hat, suntan cream.
  3. Toilets- If you would require the toilets during your visit, please use the toilets provided in the NBC (sports centre).
  4. Spectating: You are welcome to go onto the field to watch your son perform his field activities but please make sure you stand on the perimeter to avoid impeding the events.  In the track events, please kindly stand in the spectator’s area to support your son.
  5. Photography and Filming: Photograph and short films taken by parents should be kept to a minimum to avoid distracting the boys who are performing and members of the audience.  All images should be for personal use only.  In respect of our Child Protection policy, under no circumstances should any images be uploaded onto social or online media of any kind.

Looking forward to seeing you all there.

Mr Herbert

On Friday, 5 July all boys in Nursery to Y4 are expected to be in at normal time. Y4 boys, and their parents, will be attending Prizegiving from 9-10:30am on the Head’s Lawn. Coffee will be served for parents in the Dining Room from 8:30am. Boys in Nursery to Y3 will be in their classrooms. All parents are then invited to join our Nursery/Pre-Prep/Junior School concert in The New Beacon Centre at 10:35am. The concert will last approximately 40 minutes.

After the concert, teachers will take boys back to their classrooms. Parents are then invited to tour around the school for our Celebration Day, which is effectively an Open Day for current parents. If you wish to go around school with your son, please collect him from his classroom. Otherwise, please feel free to go around on your own. The day will end at 1pm (however boys may leave any time after the concert), before lunch, however care will be in place for any boys who can’t be collected at 1pm.

Please sign your son(s) out with their teacher before taking them home.  Alternatively, please let us know if you would like your son to go home with someone else. Lunch will be provided for any boys staying for the afternoon, and boys can be collected at their usual collection times. There will be no clubs. However, Early Years, Pre-Prep Activity Club, Junior School Prep and After School Club will run as normal. Please e-mail Mrs. Harding if your son will be staying for the afternoon and will require lunch and also if you will require your son to attend any of the after-school club provision.

Hopefully, you will have received the order information for your son’s class photograph and whole school photograph. A proof card was given to the boys, so if you have not seen it yet, you may need to rummage in their book bags. To place an order for the class photograph you will need to visit www.gillmanandsoame.co.uk and enter the login and password listed on the card.

Please click HERE to order the whole school photograph.

Next week the whole school is celebrating National Diversity Week. We are asking the whole school to wear one item of multicoloured clothing on Friday.

(Current Y4-Y7)

Join us in support of ‘Save the Rhino International’ a UK conservation charity. It is Europe’s largest single-species rhino charity. A cake sale will be held during The New Beacon Sports Day on Thursday 27 June. We encourage boys and parents to support this worthy cause. 100% of the proceeds will go this initiative.

Please bring along CASH only for your boys to enjoy some yummy treats.

Did you know?
Many of the workbooks purchased by The New Beacon that the boys use in class support Save the Rhino International. Look at the back of your son’s book and you will see their logo.

The Learning Strategies, Unlocking Potential (UP) Department supports boys across the classes in a range of areas either in small groups or on a 1:1 basis. The UP team is offering a day on Monday 1 July for any parents whose son has had some support from us this year to discuss their progress and their transition to their next class. If you have not already arranged a meeting and would like to, then please contact Mrs Bridges on pauline.bridges@newbeacon.org.uk to book a time on that day.

Alternatively, we can meet early next term as we will continue to monitor the boys who have received support with us.

We look forward to meeting with you then.
