As we reach the end of this academic year, I want to extend my heartfelt gratitude to each of you for your unwavering support and commitment to our school community. Today’s Prizegiving and Celebration Day were examples of just this. The entire school came together to celebrate and showcase the numerous ways in which our boys excel. From academic excellence, to sporting and musical achievements, to the fantastic Art Exhibition, where every single boy in the school is represented, we really do have so much to be proud of. As we often say, it is a partnership, and your involvement is key to the boys’ success and happiness.

The Nursery/PP/JS Concert, Dr. Maslin’s swansong as Director of Music, was a highlight of the day. The shared experience of rehearsals and performances leads to a lasting bond between pupils and a strong sense of belonging. Dr. Maslin has fostered this throughout her 28 years as Director of Music and for this we are truly grateful.

This week, saw every boy in the school compete in a swimming gala. The galas were abuzz with excitement, competition and fun! The delightful sounds of cheering were audible through my office window throughout the week. Well done to every single boy who took part! My heartfelt thanks to Mrs. Bridgeman for organising these wonderful events and for the dedicated swimming coaching she provides.

Class lists will be sent home today, ready for ‘Move up Monday’ on 8th July. A reminder that term finishes on Wednesday, 10th July (12pm for PP, 12:15pm for Y3 and 12:30pm for Y4). There will be no after-school care provision on this day, as the teachers will have an INSET afternoon. Younger brothers can wait to be collected by their older siblings. Please e-mail Mrs. Harding if you wish your son to wait for his brother.

Over the Summer break, I hope you find time to relax and enjoy special moments with your family. I look forward to welcoming you and the boys back in September for another exciting year of learning and progress.

3 September 2024 – 2-3pm
On 3 September between 2-3pm we are offering an optional opportunity for boys to pop into school, say hello to their Form Teacher, remind themselves of where a desk or peg is situated and just generally take some of the worry away from the first morning of term. Boys are not required to wear uniform and must be accompanied by an adult. Feel free to pop in any time between 2-3pm, but the session will finish promptly at 3pm as teachers will still have a lot of work to do to prepare for the first day back.

It has been an active year in which the Eco Warriors have instigated several projects including: –

  • Engine Idling Poster Competition
  • The Big Bird Watch Count
  • The Big Plastic Count
  • Bird feeding initiative
  • Litter picking
  • Development of “ECO day” for next term
  • Growing plants to take home. Each boy in the Pre-Prep and Junior School planted the seeds of Cosmos and Sunflower to take home to water, look after and then grow on in their gardens. I am hoping to receive some pictures of the flowering plants during the summer to display on the Eco Board next term.

As well as all this we have been supporting many others like the wildflower gardens that grace our pathways around the Pre-Prep and Junior School.  This was the initiative of Mr Jackson, supported by Mrs Blyth and her Gardening Club, and has brought much joy to all who see the cornflowers, poppies and assorted wildflowers.

We would like to remind all parents whose boys might have grown out of their shoes (that in the school car park behind the swimming pool) there is a collection point for old shoes which can be sent to those in other countries who cannot afford these vital items.  If you decide to do this, can you tie each pair of shoes together so there is less sorting to do.

Finally, I would like to thank all the Eco Warriors for their time and for giving up some of their precious break time, as well as to all parents who have helped in many of the initiatives and in gathering information.

Charles Hutchison (Eco Warrior)
