The Laptop Library is an initiative run by Fine Tuned Tech, Sevenoaks and supported by local parents in order to help facilitate education for all during the pandemic. Donated laptops and PCs are refurbished and then loaned out to families in the local community who would otherwise be unable to access online learning. They are all logged and given a barcode each, so that donors are able to find out where they are at any time.
The initiative has already helped several local schools. Mrs Tickner at Dunton Green Primary School said: ‘Thank you so much for the donation of 3 laptops for use by our pupils that do not have access to IT for their remote learning. This will make a huge difference to the families of children that without your help would be unable to engage in the learning on offer and potentially fall further behind. Not all vulnerable and disadvantaged pupils are able to be in school at this time and the loan of a laptop not only offers the opportunity for the pupil to engage with their learning but also to feel supported by the school and the local community.”
If you have a used laptop to donate, please check here to make sure it will be able to support the technologies that schools need. Another area proving hugely helpful is the corporate sector: if you have contacts who might be able to help us with donations of laptops from businesses, that would also be fantastic.
The New Beacon Parent Association would like to support this local community initiative and should anyone wish to make a financial contribution, we are happy to accept this on their behalf and pass your donation on in full directly to Fine Tuned Tech in aid of their work. Please click here to donate.
As a registered charity, the NBPA account is completely independent of The New Beacon and fully compliant with Charity Commission regulation.
100% of donated funds will go to #laptoplibrary. This is a not for profit initiative.
All those involved are working entirely voluntarily.
