U11 IAPS National Qualifiers
Huge congratulations to the U11 boys who travelled to Ashford today for the IAPS National Qualifiers.
Drawn in an extremely tough group, our boys performed exceptionally.
A tough and physical game started us off against a well-organised Cranmore side who were unbeaten this season so far. The New Beacon matched their physicality and came through 1-0 winners thanks to a goal from Ethan D.
Our second game of the group stage saw us beat Colfe’s with an outstanding display. A 3-0 win with goals from Peter R (2) and Arthur S.
In the final match of the group stage, we rotated the squad and still managed a comfortable victory against Hazelwood with Peter bagging a brace and Oli O scoring a great breakaway goal.
On to the knockout stage…. The Quarter final was our toughest match with Heath Mount our opponents. At full time the sides were level at 1-1 after Tio A scored an incredible equalising free-kick, resulting in a penalty shootout… Ashwin S produced a great save to see us through after our boys had scored their 4 spot kicks.
Solfield were our semi-final opposition and our boys controlled the game in a commanding 2-0 win. Magnus H with a worldie and Arthur with a great goal.
In the final, with both teams tiring and having already secured their place at the national finals, it was level at full time. Brentwood had two penalties saved by Ashwin and it was left to our captain to step up and send us to the finals. There was never any doubt.
Every member of the squad contributed and Millfield awaits at the end of November!
A special mention to Mr Handschuh, who’s calm advice and positivity helped to prepare the team for the rigours of tournament football.
