Boarding at The New Beacon
Boarding at The New Beacon offers boys the opportunity to experience the benefits of boarding life in a nurturing, and supportive environment.
With flexible boarding options from Sunday evening through to Friday, our approach allows pupils to enjoy the camaraderie and independence that comes with boarding, while still maintaining close ties with home. Whether for one night a week, five nights a week or any combination in between, our boarding ethos values respect, individuality, and friendship, all while building essential life skills to prepare our boys for future success.

Boarding Life
Life as a boarder is structured, enriching, and enjoyable. Each day begins with a hearty breakfast shared with friends, setting a positive tone for the day ahead. Boarders then join day pupils for a full schedule of high-quality lessons and co-curricular activities.
After the school day, boys take part in supervised prep sessions, with dedicated staff available to offer guidance and support. Evenings offer a chance to unwind—whether relaxing with friends, enjoying free time, or joining in a range of fun and engaging activities.
Boarding Options
We offer flexible boarding options to suit the needs of our busy families.
Weekly – Boys can stay with us from Sunday night through to Friday morning, which suits many of our pupils whose families are not local.
Flexi – Along with weekly boarding, we offer single nights, ad-hoc nights where there is a school event or trip returning late, or regular nights throughout the week.
Age Ranges
Boarding is open to boys in Years 5 to 8, with rooms arranged to include a mix of age groups. This encourages a strong sense of community, friendship, and peer support across year groups.
Rooms & Facilities
Our Boarding House offers 18 beds across three well-appointed bedrooms. Weekly boarders usually reside in our spacious main room, while those staying fewer nights are accommodated in the smaller, equally comfortable rooms.
Boarders also enjoy access to a welcoming communal lounge with a TV, a fun games room, a fully equipped kitchen, and modern bath and shower facilities—everything needed for a relaxed and homely stay.
Community
The Boarding House is centrally located within our main school building, reflecting the integral role boarders play in our school community.
Under the guidance of our dedicated Houseparent, boys develop independence, responsibility, and a sense of belonging. The Boarding House Code emphasises mutual respect and kindness, helping boarders build strong friendships and positive relationships with both peers and staff.
Activities
Boarding gives children a chance to make even greater use of the school’s extensive facilities and evening activities often include swimming, games in the sports hall and camp fire fun in the school grounds.
Other activities also include crafts, cooking, board games and music. Boys celebrate birthdays and other seasonal events such as the Boarders’ Christmas Dinner and end of year BBQ.
We ensure that life in the Boarding House is full of memorable moments that enrich the overall school experience.

The Good Schools Guide, 2025
Review Summary
“The school works hard to develop confidence and self-belief and is good at spotting potential – ‘my son would not get on the stage when he joined but now has the main part in the school play’, .”

School Review
There’s a lovely family feel at this all-boys prep in Sevenoaks which has strong community ties, including with the local girls’ schools. Solidly academic with a great sporting reputation and excellent pastoral care, it mixes tradition and innovation with aplomb, producing happy, purposeful and well-rounded pupils…

The current site is a short walk from the main school building and includes a bright, spacious room leading to a covered outdoor space where little ones can socialise, play and learn…
