Pastoral Care and Well-Being
At The New Beacon, pastoral care is at the heart of everything we do, ensuring every child thrives in a safe, nurturing, and supportive environment.
From the youngest pupils in Nursery to senior boys in Year 8, our dedicated pastoral care team works tirelessly to provide guidance and encouragement, fostering respectful relationships and mutual understanding. With a focus on both individual well-being and collective harmony, our tailored approach integrates pastoral therapy, assemblies, and the Company system, creating a school community where each boy feels valued, understood, and empowered to excel.
Pastoral Care
Our Approach to Well-Being
At The New Beacon, every child’s well-being is at the heart of our approach to pastoral care. From the worry box and Private Eye system that allow pupils to share concerns discreetly, to the daily staff meetings and electronic pastoral information system that ensure quick and effective responses, we are committed to creating a safe and nurturing environment. Our pastoral care team knows each boy personally, providing tailored guidance and support to help them thrive emotionally, socially, and academically. Every member of staff works collaboratively to ensure no child feels overlooked, fostering a sense of belonging and security throughout their school journey.
Promoting Respect and Community
Respect, politeness, and community spirit are values that are embedded in everyday life at The New Beacon. From their very first day, pupils are encouraged to treat one another with kindness and courtesy, helping to build strong, supportive relationships across year groups. The Company (House) system plays a key role in fostering teamwork and camaraderie, while form periods and assemblies encourage a sense of belonging and collective responsibility. Through events like chapel services and CPSHE lessons, we teach our pupils to appreciate diversity, embrace cultural and social awareness, and develop the interpersonal skills they’ll need for life.
Guidance and Safeguarding
Safeguarding every child’s well-being is central to our mission at The New Beacon. Our clear policies on behavior and anti-bullying are implemented rigorously, ensuring that any issues are addressed promptly and effectively. The pastoral care team works tirelessly to provide a safe and structured environment, combining proactive measures with responsive systems. GCLS lessons and other curriculum elements focus on health, safety, and well-being, equipping pupils with the tools they need to navigate life confidently. With a culture of open communication and active oversight from the pastoral, education, and child protection committees, we aim to support each pupil in reaching their potential.

Review Summary
“The school works hard to develop confidence and self-belief and is good at spotting potential – ‘my son would not get on the stage when he joined but now has the main part in the school play’, .”
